A young Japanese photojournalist gets her dream assignment to cover the 2008 Cambodia elections, just like her father did a decade earlier.  Her last memory of her father was him trying to teach her 10-year old self the camera, but she rejects him, then he goes off to cover the 1998 Cambodian elections, and is killed while on assignment.  So now, she feels she an intense desire to honor the memory of her father by covering the 1998 Cambodian elections.  But when she hits the ground, her emotions get the better of her as she becomes embroiled in a child trafficking network.
Background, there are over 16,000 orphans in 400 orphanages across Cambodia.  Almost half are unofficial and unregulated. 80 percent of the children are not actual orphans.  The Cambodian government is working with UNICEF to return 3,500 children to their families in 2020.  This story explores this dark phenomenon and the protagonist is based on the late Japanese reporter, Mika Yamamoto, who was killed in Aleppo covering the Syrian conflict in 2012.
