EID AL FITR CELEBRATION

Like the rest of the Muslim world, the villages of the Pankisi Valley, a.k.a. "The Valley of Terror", celebrates Eid al-Fitr after the end of the month long Ramadan fast. On the signal of Grand Imam Bekkhan, a three day event filled festival, beginning with the running of the annual Pankisi derby, a horse race featuring the Kabarda steed, pride of the High Caucasian Mountains, and their effervescent teen jockeys who ride fearlessly, bareback and stirrupless.
